I met Stacy and Cameron at the park on Good Friday since we both had to take the day off since day care was closed (we were so upset to have a long weekend). Holden is still not sure about the swing.

What's new

It has started to get really nice around here, aside from the spring rain showers. Though, the rain is making my spring garden sprout really nicely. We have been taking Holden outside to explore and unfortunately we aren't over putting EVERYTHING in our mouth. So he has now officially tasted every type of leaf, stick and dirt that is in our yard.

His 2nd tooth arrived last week. I think the top front teeth aren't far behind. He has taken to screaming when he is excited about something. Its a tense all of my muscles and yell loudly until my face is red and I'm out of breath scream. Kind of funny but certainly not an inside voice. He also has a stubborn streak, going to blame that one on Dad. We have been working on "no" to no avail. We get either an immediate pouty face and full on bawling or a laugh and lets do it again like we're playing a game. It can be quite frustrating during the morning rush, and I know we are just at the tip of the iceberg when it comes to learning to listen.

From our trip to Raleigh this weekend

Family Visit

This weekend Jeremy and I made a trip to the triangle (Raleigh area for the non-Carolinians. Oh boy I think I just called myself a Carolinian). Anyway, we went for the weekend to visit some distant relatives of Jeremy's. His 2nd cousins (his mom's cousins or Jeremy's great uncle's kids, however you want to think of it). They hosted a lovely Saturday afternoon cookout for us and we got to find out all about his great grandfather and grandmother. We stayed through Sunday morning and had a great visit and good food. We got to peak at his great-grandmother's recipe book, that was very neat, all of the recipes clipped from the newspaper and handwritten ones all in the same book. It reminded me a lot of my mother's recipe book, crammed with both clipped recipes and handwritten ones.

One of the things that spurred the visit, is back last year, Jeremy made a trip to Ohio for an officer down memorial service for his great-great-grandfather Enos Rath. Enos was killed in the line of duty back in 1899. The town of Hicksville, Ohio had a rededicating of his tombstone and a true "officer down" memorial with honors. Jeremy was the only direct descendant of Enos Rath that was able to attend the ceremony (as far as we know). Afterward, he was able to get in touch with his 2nd cousins and that is how we got to go meet everyone. In addition, they had some of Enos things that had stayed in the family and were past down. We got to see his police issued pistol and his billy club (which is what the perpetrators beat him to death with).

It was all very cool (for the lack of a better descriptor).

New Things

Some new things in the last few days. First Holden has figured out how to clap with the great teachings of his daddy. Also he can stand all by himself for a minute or so without holding on to anything.


I made my first loaf of bread this Sunday. It was bread mix by Hodgson Mill's but I figured if I could do that without screwing it up I could probably make bread from scratch. And no need for a fancy uni-tasker of a bread machine, just a big bowl and a bread pan. And is it yummy.

Today, Jeremy bought a 'new' truck. A 2008 Isuzu crew cab. Good vehicle for both a family and to tow the pop up camper this summer. We are very happy about it. Not so happy about having a car payment again, but what are you going to do.

12 Months

Here is part 1 of the long awaited birthday post. Well not many read this except the grandparents so maybe not long awaited. First order of business is his well baby checkup. Holden was 19 lbs 14 oz and 28 inches long at his 12 month check up. That is almost 4 times his birth weight and he is still only in the 10% percentile for height and weight. The doctor is happy with his growth and development.
We can't believe that this little bundle that wanted to rush into the world early is already a year old.We had a great birthday party, cupcakes and ice cream. Lots of presents that he wasn't so interested in opening. Great friends and family were around to help celebrate. I need to give a big thanks to my mom for helping get things ready.

Happy Birthday

Today my little baby turned 1. It has been a crazy weekend with the birthday party and having my mom here. I promise to get birthday photos and video uploaded by the weekend. Happy Birthday Holden!
