Summertime

Trip to the beach for Memorial day, and first camping trip of the season. Here is what I would like to convey.

2009 Beach Trip

Memorial Day 2010What a difference a year makes. Holden loved the water until a wave took both him and me out at the shoreline.

Bumps on a Log

We went camping this weekend, just a short trip after work Friday and back Sunday morning. We were only about 50 miles south of Charlotte. Once we got all set up on Friday until we had to pack back up on Sunday, Jeremy and I did absolutely nothing. It was nice. No running around, no cleaning, no going out. Just sat in our camping chairs with our friend coors light and a good book.

We were at a SC state park and our camp site backed up to the fishing lake and dock. Its was picturesque, of course we forgot to take a photo. Holden enjoyed the cool morning but spent most of the afternoon in the air conditioned camper. South Carolina in mid August is not the coolest of places, it kind of feels like you are at the screen door to hell in the afternoon. But like I said, Jeremy and I had a supply of frosty beverages.

Our productive activities: a 2.5 mile hike around the lake, Holden took his morning snooze in the moby wrap during the walk and Malachi got to go for a little swim in the lake.

Like I said we did nothing. It. Was. Awesome.

Kings Mountain

Holden went on his first camping trip this weekend, and had his first Fourth of July. We tested out the new pop-up camper at Kings Mountain state park, which is about 30 miles southwest of Charlotte. This way if Holden didn't take to the outdoors we could easily pack up and head home. However, he did better than we expected. He slept good, enjoyed the fresh air and slept during our hike on Saturday morning. I think this will be the first of many weekend camping trips.

New Adventures

Jeremy bought us a "gently used" pop up camper this week. He has been itching to get out and go camping since we haven't been in a year. I wasn't too thrilled about tent camping when I was pregnant and have felt about the same about tent camping with a 4 month old. So, it was time for us to upgrade. The camper is a 1995 Viking and we think will be in the Taylor family for many years for many memories. So, our first official camping trip of 2009, and Holden's first camping trip, will be 4th of July weekend. We will be camping close to home just in case Holden doesn't make it 2 nights in a row in the wilderness. Looking forward to it. A little concerned that the baby bug spray won't work against the Carolina mosquitos, but we will soon find out. So, the tent will be retired for now, but I'm sure as soon as Holden is in school he will be ready to tent camp while mom and dad sleep in the pop up :)
